Employer engagement tools and support for CTE programs
According to our November 2025 survey, employer prospecting and outreach is not only the most time-consuming part of work-based learning, it also represents one of the biggest areas of frustration for CTE educators. But it doesn’t have to be like that.
Employers want three things:
- They want quick access to relevant information. Don’t make them search or jump through hoops. And don’t make them fill out blind applications to give you their time and resources.
- They want to minimize risk and uncertainty. Employers need to understand the risk they’re taking on, what kind of liability is involved, and what their actual investment in the work is.
- They want to understand what’s in it for them. They need to be shown how their investment in young people will pay off for them, and they need to understand how those young people can contribute to their organizations during their experience.
But as it stands, employers who are open to the idea of hosting students often can’t find basic information about programs, remain unsure about liability and insurance, and don’t know what a student is realistically able to do. Those gaps keep many potential partners from saying yes.
